Nx 20.8+ supports the HTTP remote-cache protocol natively
Starting with Nx 20.8, Nx can connect directly to a cache server using the modern HTTP remote-cache protocol. Cachely implements that protocol; the supported setup uses a server URL and access token, without a custom task runner. See the official Nx protocol documentation and Cachely's Nx setup guide.
Upgrade Nx where practical
If your dependencies and plugins allow it, upgrade to a current supported Nx release with the latest security fixes. Version 20.8 marks the protocol boundary, not a recommendation to install that old release. Plan the migration, test your cacheable targets, and use the same pinned version locally and in CI. Nx's migration guide explains the update process.
Still on an older Nx version?
Cachely is evaluating compatibility support for Nx versions older than 20.8. That support is not available today. We want to understand existing cache setups, upgrade blockers, and interest in managed caching before deciding whether to build it. There is no commitment or release date.
